Diary from Botswana 1979-1981

Eyvor Holstein-Ranégie was born 1923 in Göteborg. She lived, together with her husband Lars Ranégie, a road designer engineer, in Ghana, Lebanon, Saudi-Arabia and Portugal, where Lars was working for various consulting companies. Lars was later employed by SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) and sent to Gaborone in Botswana. Eyvor Ranégie has a secretarial education, however, as this profession is difficult to perform in the "host countries", she devoted her time to keeping a diary (in Swedish) during the years abroad.

Dada's story is told in her own words, prints and paintings. For the first time in the Art History of Botswana an attempt has been made to produce a definitive catalogue raisonné for an artist. The book contains a catalogue of every print and many of the paintings that Dada created in her life as an artist, from 1991 to 2008 when she died. All her exhibitions are also listed. The information contained within this book will form the starting point for further study and appraisal of Dada's work and also that of her peers in the Kuru Art Project.
This unique and beautiful book will be relevant to a wide cross section of our community, on multiple levels. It was launched in London on Friday the 30th of September 2011 at the BICHA Gallery, This date was also the day that Botswana celebrated its 45th year of Independence. It was apt that Dada, a small Ncoakhoe woman from the Kalahari desert with an arresting voice and a big heart, represented Botswana on this special day.

 

 

 

MIN UD-KRÖNIKA

MIN UD-KRÖNIKA är en bok som fängslar. Den suger tag i fantasin och tar oss med på en helt vanlig människas yrkesväg som blir en resa i världen och i verkligheten. Man slås av hur tillfälligheter i författarens liv blir vägskäl vilka leder henne vidare på resan. Man förstår att hon även gör en inre resa och utvecklas själsligt under denna.
Läsaren tas med till länder som är högaktuella idag, och som i sina politiska och ekonomiska utvecklingar på ett drastiskt sätt har förändrats sedan resans början. För att nämna några exempel: Kina - Angola - Botswana och Bosnien.
Idag när terror är vardagsmat, får vi följa författarens gastkramande dagar som gisslan i Malaysia 1975, tillfångatagen av Japanska Röda Armén. Denna, och andra händelser beskrivs i ett politiskt sammanhang som vittnar om författarens breda kunskap om de länderhon arbetat och levt i. Hon relaterar också till flera kända personligheter och händelser i tiden.
Ulla Odqvist har med sin bok Min UD-krönika inte bara beskrivit hur det var att arbeta på UD. Med generositet och öppenhet delar hon med sig av sin livsväg. Läs boken, den stimulerar till mod och eftertänksamhet.
Ulla Odqvist föddes i Stockholm 1946 som nummer tre i en syskonskara om fyra flickor. Familjen bodde på många platser i Sverige under uppväxten. Det är därför inte underligt att Ulla i vuxen ålder, likt en flyttfågel har flugit runt i världen, anställd vid Utrikesdepartementet. Som Ullas favoritfågel, sädesärlan, har hon också alltid återvänt till Sverige under somrarna.

Som en osynlig sten i mitt hjärta -
om hiv och aids i Sverige och världen

The 456-page book "Like an invisible stone in my heart-about HIV and AIDS in Sweden and the world" (authored by Donald Boström and Mats Ögren Wanger and published by Leopard, in Swedish) was launched at the 2009 book fair in Gotenburg. Neo Chitombo, a Motswana, participated in the book with a chapter "I'm Miss Stigma Free" and took part in seminars about stigma and HIV/AIDS with author Henning Mankell, Professor Lars Olof Kallings and Mona Sahlin, Swedish political leader. Another Motswana contributor is Nnunu Phaphe, who wrote a chapter "Stigma is the biggest infection spreader". The book, with a foreword by former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, received contributions from Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, different experts on HIV and AIDS and 20 people from different countries, living with HIV/AIDS. Mma Ramotswe's Cookbook

Launched in Edinburgh, Scotland, on December 2, 2009, Mma Ramotswe's Cookbook compiles recipes from Botswana, with "nourishment for the traditionally built". With a foreword by author Alexander McCall Smith, creator and friend of Botswana's beloved Mma Ramotswe, the book has recipes that relate to global culinary tastes and to ingredient requirements specific to Botswana.

In his foreword, Alexander McCall Smith, who provided permission for the production of the book, writes, "The cuisine of sub-Saharan Africa is not widely known in the world. This book is to be welcomed in redressing that situation and in bringing to the attention of the readers some of the tasty dishes which the cooks of Africa - many of them women very much like Mma Ramotswe - feed their families." The author, Stuart Brown, introduces the book by saying, "I hope that you will enjoy this book, whether as a companion to McCall Smith's stories; for the beautiful photography [by Mats Ögren Wanger and Ulf Nermark] and design; as a stove-side recipe guide; or a gentle encouragement to explore Botswana."

The author states that royalties from the sale of the book will go to good causes in Botswana.
